DEAR SELF, WHO AM I?

Selfcare overcoming depression

You’re experiencing a time in your life where you have so much on your mind. It feels as if your drowning in your thoughts. You’re struggling to process and control your self-loathing comments. As you focus on your thoughts you recognize that the way you act, dress and appear in general is based on how you want to be perceived by others. These thoughts leave you to further question the real you. As a result, you feel lost and confused. You just want to be happy. You want to live for yourself and no longer for others anymore! But how?

Journaling is a great way to process your feelings, self-reflect and develop some awareness about yourself. Here are some things to consider:

1. Love yourself 100%. When self-love is not there you will always worry what other people think.
2. Let go of your fears or ask yourself what are you afraid of?
3. Remember that you CAN’T please everyone, we are not in this world to live up to what other people expect.
4. What matters most to you is essential. People’s opinions of you will always change. Only your opinion matters.
5. Give yourself your own value system, give yourself your own definition.

Even if you have been living your life for other people’s approval in the past, start now and decide to begin living life for yourself. Explore new activities, try new things, be ok with making mistakes.

Close your eyes and ask yourself: What type of life do I envision? What will make me happy? Be specific. What obstacles are in the way of achieving happiness?
